Dr. Anna Naumova publishes new research on liver fat reduction in Obesity

UW Radiology Research Associate Professor Anna Naumova, PhD, Habil.D., is the co-lead author on a paper published in the journal  Obesity. The paper, titled “Dapagliflozin-associated reduction in liver fat is independent of weight loss in patients with type 2 diabetes,” indicates that “Dapagliflozin significantly reduces liver fat percentage as assessed by MRI-PDFF, along with aiding weight loss and A1c reduction.” (1) 

The research has been featured in several news publications, including the Medscape Medical News piece Dapagliflozin can reduce liver fat in diabetes and a piece entitled Dapagliflozin may reduce liver fat in type 2 diabetes independent of weight loss: Study in Medical Dialogues. 

Dr. Naumova was interviewed by Metabolic Care Today on docwirenews in their video MASLD, MASH and the role of SGLT2 Inhibitors: Clinical implications, along with co-author and UW Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology Nicole Kim, MD, MPH. The paper’s content was also featured in the Close Concerns Diabetics Newsletter.
