UW Radiology partners with the Indian Radiological Imaging Association
UW Radiology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Indian Radiological Imaging Association (IRIA). The MOU provides a construct to support knowledge sharing, the exchange of ideas and visiting students’ and post-doctoral fellowship studies.
This partnership aims to advance radiology education across diverse regions and communities, promote collaborative learning, and support the development of interdisciplinary talent. It will also enhance student and trainee exchange programs between the two institutions.
Under the leadership of Department Chair and Professor Dr. Dushyant Sahani and Vice Chair of Global Affairs and Professor Dr. Bhavya Rehani, the MOU was signed at the Annual Meeting of the IRIA, which happened Jan. 28 – Feb. 1, 2026. Dr. Sahani was a featured speaker at the event, and Vice Chair of Finance and Administration Justin Deese helped to facilitate the execution of the MOU.
The IRIA is a registered society with the goals to, “promote the study and practice of diagnostic radiological and imaging modalities, educate practicing radiologists of the latest developments in the field of radiology, imaging and radiation medicine, to promote medical research in the said field and to propagate, impart and adopt methods of community welfare. It is a national level body having over 20,500 radiologists from all over India as its members.” (1) Past IRIA President Dr. Gurdeep Singh, Secretary General Dr. Pankaj Sharma and Dr. Om Tavri were also instrumental in helping to finalize the agreement.
“A premier academic health system like ours has an obligation to share its knowledge of learning, education, and research globally,” said Dr. Sahani. “Partnering with IRIA allows us to expand our global footprint by creating a sustainable and innovative programs that strengthen education and collaboration.”
“This partnership reflects our shared commitment to advancing radiology through international collaboration,” said Dr. Rehani. “By working together with IRIA, we hope to build meaningful academic exchanges, create opportunities for trainees and faculty, and accelerate the global sharing of knowledge that ultimately improves patient care.”
UW Radiology has previously supported virtual symposia and annual IRIA conferences featuring high-level, specialized radiologists. Through this partnership, the department plans to have individual CMEs in the future; another goal is to engage local physicians and their communities on how advanced technology is used, focusing on using UW-developed techniques.
