Team including Dr. David Marcinek named semi-finalist in the XPRIZE Healthspan Awards

The Mitochondrial All-Stars team has been named a semi-finalist in the XPRIZE Healthspan Awards. The UW effort is being led by Radiology Professor David Marcinek, PhD, and the Translational Bioenergetics Laboratory. The lab is partnering with Stealth BioTherapeutics (SB) to test their lead compound, elamipretide, as a potential intervention to improve muscle, cognitive, and inflammatory health in older adults. Senior Vice-President David Brown of SB is the leader of the project. 

The 40 semi-finalist teams were selected from over 600 applications from 58 countries for the phase I testing. Teams with, “a broad range of potential solutions for healthspan extension,” were awarded funding in the first round.
