UW staff members receive process improvement certificates

Seventeen UW administrative staff members received their Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification this November. Sixteen of the graduates were Radiology employees, and one was a member of the Burke Museum team. The course focused on structured problem solving and was completed over six half-day training sessions, which then culminated in participants presenting electronic posters on projects specific to their roles.
Justin T. Deese, MBA, Radiology vice chair of finance and administration, taught the course, which featured sessions on topics such as process mapping, current state and root cause analysis and future state design. Students worked to analyze project challenges in their own workloads using the skill sets taught, and each participant had a mentor who offered individualized guidance on the techniques and software. They also worked in small groups to find solutions to their issues and presented their work in class to highlight their ongoing progress.
Sara Nixon, MBA, Radiology associate director of finance, provided support for the course and also gave a tutorial on flow chart software usage.
The employees who received their certificate include:
Salima Ali
JR Almeda
