Biography
Dr. Charlene B. Ofosu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Washington, where she practices Interventional Radiology with a strong commitment to education, mentorship, and community engagement. Her path to academic medicine reflects both intellectual curiosity and a deep dedication to expanding access and opportunity within healthcare.
Dr. Ofosu began her academic journey at Central Michigan University, earning a degree in Biomedical Sciences, and went on to complete a Master of Science (M.S.) in Human Biology at Chatham University. Early exposure to clinical research in Interventional Radiology at Johns Hopkins University helped shape her interest in image-guided, minimally invasive therapies, and the longitudinal care of complex patients.
Dr. Ofosu earned her medical degree (M.D.) from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, where she also completed her transitional year internship. She then pursued Diagnostic Radiology residency with Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, serving as Chief Resident. Driven to further refine her expertise, Dr. Ofosu completed an Interventional Radiology fellowship at the University of California San Francisco. She is double board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology.
Clinically, Dr. Ofosu is passionate about longitudinal interventional oncology, including percutaneous and catheter-directed therapies. Her practice also includes women’s health with expertise in uterine fibroid embolization, genitourinary interventions, dialysis access management, and a broad range of general interventional radiology procedures. She is especially committed to caring for patients across the continuum of disease, building lasting relationships through minimally invasive solutions that improve quality of life.
Beyond her clinical work, Charlene is deeply invested in trainee education, academic mentorship, and the development of pipeline programs that introduce students from underserved communities to careers in medicine. She believes that representation, exposure, and sustained mentorship are critical to building a more inclusive healthcare practice.
Fluent in English and Twi, her native language from Ghana, Charlene continues to work toward conversational Spanish to better serve diverse patient populations. Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, volunteering, learning about new cultures, and embracing the outdoors of the Pacific Northwest, most recently by taking up skiing.
