Biography

Dr. Richards was a Professor of Radiology at the University of Washington. He started using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) during his doctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned his PhD in biophysics. For three decades he used MRI to answer questions about brain function, including research questions about various disease conditions and disorders.

Dr. Richards was an expert in collecting and analyzing MRI data and has developed software that is used by several NIH-funded research projects. He also analyzed advanced MR imaging techniques such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), proton MR spectroscopy and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), functional connectivity, and perfusion imaging.
